TV host Raymond Gutierrez went to watch the Bruno Mars concert at the Araneta Coliseum last Friday April 8 but he was also pleasantly surprised to learn that the singer is a relative.
On yesterday's “Showbiz Central”, Raymond related how he discovered that he’s a relative of the Filipino-Puerto Rican singer responsible for the hits “Just The Way you Are” and Billionaire.”
“Actually, I went to the concert really as a fan of his music. Wala akong alam na he’s related pala to my dad pero pagdating namin doon ‘yung mga production people sinabi nila sa friends ko na, 'Do you know that Bruno’s mom said na she’s related to Eddie Gutierrez?' So ‘yun nga, we met the mom, we met the family,” Raymond shared.
Then, he brought up the matter again with his dad. “Sinabi ng dad ko sa akin kagabi. Kasi tinanong ko, sabi ko, 'Dad, do you remember Eugene na kamag-anak mo na taga-Hawaii?' ‘Yung pala yun ang lolo ni Bruno Mars na pinsan ng daddy ko na taga-Hawaii. Sabi pa ng daddy ko, ‘yung Eugene na ‘yon, yung lolo ni Bruno Mars, very musically inclined, naggi-gitara, kumakanta. So hindi na siya nabigla na ‘yung generation, ‘di ba, ‘yung next generation maging singers din.”
Raymond tweeted his discovery on April 8. He said, “Omg according to @BrunoMars' mom, her dad is my dad's cousin! Uhm we're related?? Will investigate this!”
The next day, he tweeted again and confirmed that he and Bruno Mars really are related to each other.
“Just met Bruno & his whole family. Its confirmed,we're cousins! Haha! My dad & his lolo are cousins & he stayed with them in Hawaii.”
This was followed by another tweet which said, “Getting bombarded with tweets. Ok guys Bruno is my nephew, not cousin. Makes it even more weird!”
Raymond even shared that after “Showbiz Central” they will have a dinner with Bruno's mom and the rest of the family. “So it’s gonna be a big catch-up session. Parang nakakagulat lang.”
