MMDA, PNP Ready for Holy Week Traffic

MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced that more than 1,000 traffic enforcers will be enforced starting April 20.

These enforcers will be assigned to major thoroughfares, particularly EDSA and other exit points of Metro Manila, as part of MMDA’s Metro Alalay Semana Santa.

The Philippine National Police, meanwhile, will deploy 135,000 officers throughout the country and 5,000 in Metro Manila.

Authorities will also be manning bus and jeepney terminals, airports and shopping malls in anticipation of Holy Week.

MMDA Assistant General Manager for Operations Emerson Carlos reiterated that the suspension of the number coding scheme would begin tomorrow, April 19 (Tuesday), to allow motorists to leave the metropolis anytime. The lifting of the traffic reduction scheme applies to all national roads, except those in Makati City.

The Makati City government said it would continue to implement the number coding scheme on Tuesday and Wednesday and suspend it on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday as these are legal holidays.

Number coding will resume on Monday, April 25, next week.
